The beach at Porto Giglio
Off the shore of Tuscany, Italy, there lies a beautiful Island relatively unscathed by tourists called The Isle of Giglio. This is the beach by the only port on the Island. The work presents a serene coastal scene, capturing a tranquil moment by the sea. The composition effectively utilizes a natural landscape featuring robust elements such as rugged rocks, a sandy shore, the gentle caress of waves lapping at the shoreline. It depicts the contrast between the sturdy solid presence of the rocks and the fluid , ephemeral nature of the water. This dynamic interplay contributes to the overall harmony of the piece, it evokes feelings of calm and introspection.
The inclusion of a partially hidden boat on the left creates a narrative layer, suggesting human presence and interaction with the natural environment. And the vegetation around the boat and structure adds depth and texture, breaking the hardness of the rocky landscape and adding softer visual elements. The sky with its billowing clouds showcases a light and atmosphere capturing a specific moment, a calm and pleasant day.
The colour palette is both rich and earthy, with warm tones dominating the rocks and sand, complemented by the cool blues and greens of the ocean and sky. The artist's brushwork varies from smooth and flowing in the water and sky to more textured and expressive in the rocks and foreground vegetation, demonstrating a versatility in technique that enhances the realism and tactile quality of the landscape. The scene invites the viewer to reflect on the relationship between humanity and the natural world.

At the sale for the school
Our community includes quite a diverse population, including a religious group called Mennonites. This artwork is a vibrant painting capturing the sale of a mini horse mare and her colt. The central focus is on two children, one riding the mare as her foal cavorts and kicks around the sales ring, while a second older child tries to control the pair by holding the mother's bridle. Yearly the community has a fundraising day to support their schools, everyone donates by selling and buying to raise funds.
Beyond the children a crowd of bidders and onlookers watch from behind a green fence, with concerned gazes. The foreground suggests the viewer is in the crowd behind some men, one wearing a highly detailed straw hat, which adds depth and perspective to the painting. The grass is depicted in varying shades of green, adding texture and dimension to the scene. The composition conveys a sense of community and shared experience with a nostalgic, bucolic feel.

Ripples
In the early light of dawn the rock shore is so calm. The only movement, concentric circles around the young rocks who poked their heads from their beds too early this day. And were called back for more rest.

Y a veces tomaba mi cámara.
